Our Homeworld

Every day I receive news from around the world, and most of it is disturbing. There’s not much I can do about it except recognize what is happening and try to figure out what I can change in my life. The feeling that comes with this is called Weltschmerz. Experiencing this pain shows me that I’m indeed a sentient being. I see others expressing their discomfort in their words and actions. Among them, I found Edgar Allan Poets with this thoughtful song.
In fact, we live in an absurd reality. Wars are raging in many parts of the world. There’re also an awful lot of people living in poverty. Everything is at stake as the fragile world economy shows signs of weakness, and so on. All of this contributes to the increasing exploitation of the entire living system, call it nature if you will. In addition, scarce resources such as rare earths, fossil fuels, and others are being greatly overexploited. We probably won’t fully realize that many of them aren’t unlimited until we almost run out of these substances that are essential to modern daily life. In the meantime, the entire climate system is under pressure, with consequences we choose to ignore. We are likely to miss the opportunity for voluntary action. My guess is that we will be forced to.

A scenery
At the edge of the morning
The roosters crow
The sun rises
First people walk on the sidewalk
My spirit bled all night
Found despair and hope
Will now go into the new day
Find new light and fill the darkness
In the eternal perpetual circle of mind
Lost to find
On new ways and beliefs
Until I greet the night again
